According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid are testing Chelsea’s resolve to hold on to winger Willian by bringing him to the club in a joint deal alongside team-mate Thibaut Courtois with a heavy war chest.
The Brazilian had looked to be heading towards a summer move to the Camp Nou after the Spanish champions lodged several bids for his services, but the ‘Blues’ held firm, with their £70m asking price proving too much for Barca.
Thus, the Catalans turned their attentions to other targets, swooping to sign Bordeaux’s Malcom from under the noses of Roma.
There could be yet another twist in the tale though, with Madrid now keen on the Samba star as their summer rebuild gets underway, according to the ‘Daily Mail’.
A £35m move for Courtois is thought to have been agreed in, with Chelsea waiting on a replacement before letting their man leave.
Now, it is believed that Julen Lopetegui wants Willian as part of the same deal and is prepared to pay £65m for the 29-year-old, taking the overall package up to £100m.
Courtois has his heart set on a return to Spain, where he previously enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with Atletico Madrid and whose children live in Madrid with their mother, whilst Willian is also keen on a fresh start after a frustrating 2017/18 campaign under Antonio Conte.
Despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, right-back Alvaro Odriozola remains Real Madrid’s only summer addition to date.
