Brazil legend, Ronaldo Nazario has given his view on Brazil’s World Cup exit, stating that more was expected from Neymar.
In an interview with ‘Sport TV’, Brazilian legend Ronaldo spoke about his nation’s exploits in Russia, and in particular star forward Neymar.
Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Belgium, and Neymar was the centre of attention throughout, as he received heavy criticism for his diving and theatrics.
“I recognise that we all expected more from him,” Ronaldo said when asked about the PSG player. “He is the main attacker and the ‘star’ of Brazil, and we expected more. But Neymar will now start the French league and this is already in the past.”
He added that the 26-year-old’s injury problems go some way to explaining his play. “He played with limits,” the footballing icon stated. “I didn’t speak with him, but you could see that he was limited.”
“I don’t know if it was because of the operation on his foot or another problem. Going to a World Cup after an operation and three months out is complicated. Playing the first game as if nothing happened is difficult.”
“The expectations were greater than what he offered. He needs to learn from this World Cup. He is young, with talent, and there is a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.”
