Heartland hopes of gradually coming out of relegation waters were dashed as they failed to defeat a resurgent Enyimba side in a 0-0 draw.
In a rescheduled Match Day 22 of the Nigeria Professional Football League played at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri started brilliantly with the home side launching waves of attacks on the People’s Elephant putting the defence and keeper on very high alert.
For almost 30 minutes, the five-time league champions literally camped themselves at the other end of the pitch but were unable to breach a resolute Enyimba defence.
The away side uncharacteristically made a rare attempt to hit the home side on a break in the 33rd minute before Heartland resumed again from where they stopped.
In the 40th minute, Heartland had the best chance of the game to open scoring but Fortune Omoniwari missed a sitter.
The second half started in a similar fashion as the first half with Heartland with all determination continued to lay siege on Enyimba.
It was a huge relief to the visitors when the referee cancelled a goal scored by Omoniwari for being in an offside position.
Towards the end of the second half, Enyimba upped the ante and hit the woodwork to the agony of the team.
Following this draw, Heartland remain at the base of the log table with 20 points while Enyimba have climbed up to occupy the 4th position with 38 points
