Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata, has warned his teammates that Barcelona star, Lionel Messi will be unstoppable when the two sides meet in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Messi has not scored against Chelsea in eight appearances, but Morata believes the Argentine ‘can’t be stopped’ this time.
“If we can get a good result here, we have to play a defensive game with spaces and try to bother them as much as possible.”
The first leg of the last-16 tie takes place at Stamford Bridge on February 20, with the return leg at the Nou Camp scheduled for March 14.
Morata joined Chelsea last summer in a club-record deal and became an instant hero at Stamford Bridge, scoring seven goals in seven appearances. But he failed to find the back of the net throughout October and then missed almost a month at the start of 2018 with a back injury.
Morata won the Spanish title and the Champions League during his spell in the Spanish capital but says he was frustrated at being the club’s secondary option. ‘I played lots in my home, with my team, with my friends,’ he added. ‘We won the league and Champions League.
‘I played lots of games, but always with the plan B. I never asked to be a starter, Madrid is another planet. ‘But I didn’t play knockout games in the Champions League, neither against Barcelona, Atletico Madrd, Sevilla or Valencia. Life doesn’t end when you leave Real Madrid, but I am still a fan of Real Madrid.’
