Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly described Arsenal’s initial approach for striker, Karim Benzema as “shameful”
Perez is keen on offloading Benzema from La Liga and Champions League holders, despite him committing to a new four-year deal just last September.
Arsenal wants to bring the 29-year-old Los Blancos hitman in to replace contract rebel, Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean due to leave the Emirates at the end of the season on a free transfer as Arsene Wenger has been a huge long-term admirer of his fellow Frenchman.
According to Diario Gol, the Gunners have firmed up their interest with an offer of £40m to Madrid, but Perez was quick to dismiss the approach as it was way below his valuation of the striker.
Despite Benzema’s drop-off in form lately, However, Perez still sees Benzema as one of the best strikers on the planet and believes he can recoup much more for one of his favorite players.
Benzema has endured a miserable season, netting only two goals in his first 13 games and a double against Champions League minnows Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday has not changed the Los Blancos supremo’s desire to move him on after eight years in Spain.
During his time in the Spanish capital, Benzema has collected two La Liga trophies, three Champions Leagues and two Copas del Rey.
