Former Real Madrid star, Angel Di Maria has been sentenced to one year in prison following charges relating to an image rights deal from his time with Madrid.
The former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has been sentenced to a year in prison after admitting to tax fraud although Di Maria is unlikely to face prison.
El Confidencial reports Di Maria has been accused of two offences from his time with Real Madrid.
He is said to have defrauded the Spanish government out of £1.14million during his four-year spell at the Bernabeu.
Di Maria left Real in 2010 to join Manchester United for a Premier League record fee.
He has reportedly admitted to both counts of fraud and will pay a fine of £1.76million – avoiding a trial at the Spanish Supreme Court.
Despite being handed the prison sentence, Di Maria is highly unlikely to spend any time behind bars. Sentences of under two years are suspended in Spain providing the convicted has no criminal record.
It comes a day after former boss Jose Mourinho was also accused of tax evasion by Spanish prosecutors.
The Portuguese has denied the allegations that he failed to declare his income from the use of image rights.
Cristiano Ronaldo has also been accused in the last week, while Lionel Messi was convicted a year ago and handed a 21-month sentence.
