The Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr is set to drop Manchester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho over his poor performance in the 2-0 home defeat to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last weekend.
Reports have it that the coaches are now on the lookout for a new man to lead their attack.
Iheanacho has led the line for the Super Eagles in recent times and he has been the team’s leading scorer, but some team officials have now argued that he could be a lot more effective playing off a top striker and not as the main striker.
“Iheanacho has been the leading scorer of the team, but most of his goals have not been in open play but penalties,” one of the officials told SCORENigeria.
“He has not often been played as top striker even at his club and with the physicality of the African game, he can only struggle in that position for the Eagles.
“You will get his best when he plays behind the top striker. And that’s why we have to now get a real top 9.”
Odion Ighalo, Victor Osimhen and Olanrewaju Kayode could now be considered to lead the Eagles strike force going forward.
