My Son On Several Occasions Rejected Chelsea Captaincy Band – Pa Michael Obi

Pa Michael Obi, father of the national Under-23team captain, Mikel Obi, has said that Chelsea star had in the past rejected the captaincy of his club while praising his son for justifying his inclusion in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games squad and his selection as the leader of the team.

Nigeria on Saturday booked their place in the semi-finals of the men’s football event of the Olympics courtesy of their 2-0 win over Denmark.

He said that Mikel was never crazy about being the captain, adding that he had been offered the captaincy of his club on several occasions, which he rejected.

Mikel got the first goal in the 19th minute while Aminu Umar made it safe for Nigeria with the second strike on 59th, thus setting a semi final derby with Germany.

According to Punch,the father said that he was elated that his son had been performing well at the Olympics,

Pa Obi said, “I am very happy about our win against Denmark and I am sure that that Mikel will lead the national team to victory. I and my entire family and indeed all Nigerians are praying that they bring the Olympic gold to Nigeria.”
