The Chairman of Akwa United’s management committee, Paul Bassey, has admitted that the club is keen on signing Joseph Yobo.
The former Super Eagles captain, will sign for a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, after reaching an agreement with the League Management Company (LMC).
According to the LMC, Yobo, will be assigned to a club for the last 12 matches, under the NPFL Elite Players Scheme.
Four teams – Kano Pillars, Akwa United, IfeanyiUbah FC and Wikki Tourists – are all fighting to land the former Everton and Fenerbahce defender.
“We would love to have Yobo play for us,” Bassey told CompleteSports.
“It would be a thing of honour for him to play for Akwa United.
“It is his choice to make. There were four clubs he listed earlier, Akwa United, FC Ifeanyiubah, Wikki Tourists and Kano Pillars.
“For now, LMC have not tied up everything. We expected that last week.
“The only thing is that for us at Akwa United, we would like him play for us.”
