European champion, Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to retire at Real Madrid despite his love for English football, his friend and former teammate Jose Semedo has said.
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Semedo, who played alongside Ronaldo in the Sporting youth academy, said in October that he expected the former Manchester United star to play in England again before the end of his career.
Ronaldo had suggested on several occasions around that time that he was open to leaving Madrid, but he now appears happy at the Bernabeu following the appointment of Zinedine Zidane in January.
Asked if he thought the 31-year-old would return to the Premier League now, Semedo told talkSPORT: “I don’t think so, my friend. He really loves Real Madrid and I think he will retire there. He loves English football, but I think he will retire at Real Madrid.”
Ronaldo, who had been strongly linked with Paris Saint-Germain, had said in May: “The other clubs can forget it, I am going to retire at Real Madrid. It would be smart of Real Madrid to renew my contract. I want to stay here.”
