2017 AFCON: Egypt, Senegal Seal Qualification

| |

Senegal have mathematically confirmed their qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals after claiming a 2-0 away win over Burundi on Saturday.

The Teranga Lions were already all but certain of a place in the Gabon tournament thanks to four successive wins in Group K, but they made absolutely sure with a victory at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura.

Southampton attacker Sadio Mane put the West Africans ahead in the 16th minute, and their advantage was doubled a few minutes before by the break by Stoke City’s Mame Biram Diouf.

The Ternaga Lions were able to hang onto their lead in the second half and settled for a 2-0 victory a fifth straight win in the group for Alious Cisse’s side.

Senegal will wrap up their qualification campaign with their final match at home to Namibia in September, while Burundi will be away to Niger.

Elsewhere, Egypt will return to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament for the first time since 2010, this after they secured qualification for the 2017 finals in Gabon on Saturday.

The Pharaohs who have won a record seven Nations Cup titles only needed to avoid a heavy defeat in their final Group G clash away to Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam, but they emphatically secured qualification with a 2-0 win at the National Stadium.

Italian-based attacker Mohamed Salah was the hero for Egypt, scoring both goals. The first was direct from a free kick just before half time, and the second a fine strike on the hour mark.
